Backlinks Are Still The Major Website Traffic Stream

Filed under: SEO — Laugh and Live @ 11:26 pm

et’s start with this experiment.  Go to Google, Yahoo or MSN and type “get it here” in the search box. Note the results on the first result pages and try to deduce why the results came out what they are!

Being on the first page of results on major search engines such as Google, Yahoo or MSN for certain keywords is the purpose of every search engine optimization project. Being at the first page, will bring free organic traffic and of course more business and value to the website.  When optimizing for search engines, most optimizers concentrate on optimizing the website itself by enhancing titles, keywords, descriptions, image alts, page text and other factors that with no doubt are very important for any search engine optimization project. However, I noticed that webmasters get lazy when it comes to the most important factor that brings websites to the top of the search engine results.

At the time of writing this article, both Google and Yahoo returned quicktime.com in the first position for the “get it here” keyword. MSN returned the Adobe flash player page. The least amount of results was 354,000,000 search results.

When you go to either the adobe flash player page or the quick time player page and take notes from a search engine optimization prospective; “get it here” is not in the domain name, not in the title of the page, not in the keywords, not in the meta description, not in any alt of the images nor anywhere else in the pages text or html source code! Further, you can bet that you will get the same notes if you looked at all the web pages on the first result pages of Google, Yahoo or MSN.  The question is: how did these pages get to rank high in search engines in such a way in spite the fact that they are irrelevant and not optimized for that specific keyword?

The domain name, title, meta description, keywords, image alts and page text are all important seo factors but they are obviously not the answer. The major search engine optimization factor is backlinks.

Optimizing your website’s elements such as the keywords and your page texts is just the beginning. Those elements are important but they should only be considered as a preparation phase. The real work starts right after finishing this phase.

Adobe flash player and quick time is used by millions of users. You probably have encountered something similar to this sentence “This page requires flash player. If you do not have flash player installed get it here”. The “get it here” is a backlink to the flash player page. Millions of websites have a link to the Adobe flash player page with “get it here” for the text of the link and with no doubts that’s why adobe flash player is number one for the “get it here” keyword.

An important thing to notice here is that the benefit of having backlinks to a site is not only by bringing the website to the top of search engine results. A backlink also brings even more website traffic from clicks on that link. If you have paid for a pay per click marketing campaign, then you know how much a click is worth! Millions of users click the “get it here” link and go to the Adobe and QuickTime website at no cost to either! You do the math!

Backlinks are with no doubt your primary source of website traffic. Backlinks bring you to the top of search engine results. Backlinks establishes your website popularity. Traffic to your website is the value of your website, backlinks are what creates traffic and therefore, building backlinks should be on the top of your marketing campaign priorities to maximize the traffic and value of your website.

Backlinks are simply the links that you get to your website from other websites. If you do not have sufficient amount of links pointing to your website, you will keep striving and paying money to get a small portion of traffic that probably will not cover your expenses nor will it be worth the time you spend using other search engine optimization methods such as optimizing your website content. Even if you have the best website with the best content, if you do not have backlinks, you will not have any significant website traffic.

The Single Most Affordable SEO Tip Around

Filed under: SEO — Laugh and Live @ 11:22 pm

Our small business clients are always interested in affordable SEO ideas to increase the traffic to their websites on a very limited budget. And we typically offer the same search engine optimization tip to all of our clients:

The easiest, most affordable SEO step you can make to drive traffic to your website is to add unique content on a regular basis.

Many of our small business marketing clients don’t like to hear that. They’re not natural born writers, and they believe adding content on a consistent schedule is going to be extremely difficult.

However, up-to-date, unique content is extremely important from an SEO perspective. The search engines love new and unique content. It’s a great way to set your website up as an authority, in both the search engine’s eyes and your site visitors’ eyes. Having lots of great content on your website gives you more opportunities to achieve better search engine rankings.

Adding content on a regular basis gives the search engine spiders a reason to come back and crawl your site. Getting your site crawled often is a good thing! It usually means more of your website pages will get indexed by Google, which means you have a better chance of showing up in the search engine results pages (SERPs).

Don’t let the idea of adding content scare you off. High quality, unique content doesn’t have to be a 5,000 word masterpiece. In fact, your site visitors will appreciate if it isn’t a 5,000 word masterpiece. And the good news is, Google is basically looking for the same thing your site visitors are looking for.

No one, including Google, wants to spend 20 minutes reading what you have to say. In fact, Google does have a limit to how long it will spend on any one web page, which is a convenient coincidence, because so do your human website visitors.

So, when writing new content for your website, keep your articles or blog posts between 300 and 600 words. Don’t try to stuff your keywords into your articles or posts; write naturally and try to appeal to your human visitors. Believe it or not, Google is “smart” enough to recognize a natural writing style.

Make your article easy to scan. Use lots of white space, bullet points, and numbered lists. Use subheadings throughout the post so your readers can easily grasp the point of the article.

And above all, make your articles useful and informative. That’s what your human visitors are after and that’s what Google is after too.

Signs of Jealousy

Filed under: Relationships — Laugh and Live @ 12:20 pm

Somewhere and sometime in this life, everyone of us has ever experienced jealousy. I believe many of us here still remember how awful we felt when we were jealous.

Yes, jealousy is common in every type of relationship. And it often proved to be useful in many romantic relationship: it helps keep the fire of love alive and make the relationship stronger.

If one partner in a romantic relationship never shows any form of jealousy, the other partner may feel no longer wanted and/or needed. And things would be worse if the other partner has self-confidence and self-esteem issues (which are very common among people).

Indeed, jealousy can be very beneficial for romantic relationship. But just like drugs, which will be only useful if taken rightly as prescribed, so will jealousy.

Excessive amount of jealousy will poison any relationship instead of making it stronger. Too much amount of jealousy – just like medicines – can and will surely poison the relationship, even to the extent of beyond recuperation.

So, it is imperative to have control over jealousy. Thus, identifying beforehand whether your significant one – or your love interest – has potential to become an overly-jealous and controlling person can not be over-emphasized.

The funny thing about jealousy is, people who are jealous oftentimes are not even aware that they are jealous. And not only that, the unwillingness of the ones who suffer jealousy to admit that they are jealous adds more complication to the already complicated situation.

Truly, it takes courage (and honesty to own self) to admit jealousy. But no one of us should go through those stressful phases in the relationship caused by jealousy if we can know and identify the signs of jealousy so that we can deal with it the right way.

Yes, there are some signs of jealousy that we can use to know whether our love interest or our significant one – or even our own self – is jealous or not. What are they? Read on!

1. When you talk to an opposite sex, your partner – or your love interest – suddenly becomes too quiet.

2. If you see that your partner act as if he/she does not care when you are talking to a friend from the opposite sex – and from the way he/she behaves you can tell that she is only pretending to not care – there is a good chance that he/she is jealous.

3. If later he/she creates a fight with you for seemingly no cause – and he/she mentions the guy’s/girl’s name to attack you – then it is obvious: he/she is jealous.

4. You see him/her became disturbed or felt unsecured when you remark someone else as attractive.

5. He/she becomes upset or shows his/her her disapproval if there is someone else seemed attracted to you.

Those are only a few signs of jealousy. There are a lot more. If you find your love partner shows one or several of those signs, then help him/her to overcome his/her jealousy before it becomes too big to handle. Or, if he/she is one that you are attracted to, then there is good possibility that he/she has the similar feeling for you, too. If this is the case, then go, approach him/her and make him/her know about your feeling

Developing Web Traffic on Twitter With TweetDeck

Filed under: Traffic Building — Laugh and Live @ 11:19 pm
By: John Thurston Boyd

If you are like myself and use a number of the known social networking sites, you know it can be very difficult to manage or even remember all of the conversations that you have going on in parallel in even one of these sites. Well I’ve just discovered a fantastic tool for all fans of not just Twitter but for the main social networking sites like MySpace, Facebook and Buzz. It’s called TweetDeck. You’re probably asking yourself well what is TweetDeck. Well TweetDeck is an application that breaks down your Tweets,Twits and other conversations into manageable chunks of information of which you are able to keep track. If you are an internet marketer like myself, who is always looking to tap into the various trends in order to increase web traffic, then this is the tool for you.

TweetDeck has some really fantastic features which I will talk about below but one of the key features is the ability to separate your TweetDeck screen into several columns broken down by your specified categories. The standard categories separate from your normal tweets with all of your followers, from the replies you have received and any groups if you choose to create them. It has very nice search facilities so that allows you to add search columns.

The columns are a nice facility to ensure that you don’t miss replies to a particular conversation that you are having. The search columns allow you to stay up to date on new trends, or topics of interests or keywords that you maybe interested in being kept abreast of in Twitter. This is a small example of the power of the search facilities of TweetDeck. The global search facilities are structured in such as way that you can keep a running global search of all of your search terms. This is a powerful tool for maximizing the networking possibilities in Twitter and other social networks by keeping up with developing trends. In this way, you will increase the number of followers and web traffic to your site.

Another interesting feature of TweetDeck is the ability to track Direct Message that you both send and receive in a particular column. This is very useful for staying up to date on an ongoing conversational thread that you maybe having with one or more followers. It allows you to avoid going back and forth between your home profile and the direct message page on Twitter. Now you can follow both without waiting.

Here are some other interesting features that exist in TweetDeck:

You can put your cursor over an avatar of any tweet and then do multiple actions (i.e. reply, send a direct message, re-tweet or mark as favorite).

- You can edit your tweets directly from the tweet panel as well as have your tweets spellchecked.

- You can modify the columns so that they are narrower or longer depending on your preferences.

- You can resize the entire application, reduce or increase the number of the columns as well as size the columns individually.

You also have the facility to connect to not just Twitter but to other social networking sites such as MySpace, Facebook, LinkedIn and Buzz.

TweetDeck is probably one of the best tools for managing your information, following trends, developing web traffic via Twitter as well as other social networking sites. I highly recommend it. If you want to check it out, go to http://www.tweetdeck.com
